The best way to describe Arnies is Ehhh. I have been I believe 5 times. Twice at this location. Overall 3 of those times the food was ehhh. 2 of those 3 were at this location. The other 2 times were blah and yuck. Just to define Ehhh it means not bad but average at best. Now to the service that has ranged from bad to Ehhh. The last time was at this location the service was BAD. It was slow, the waiter got my order wrong, and I had to ask for my pop to be refilled twice. Not to mention I got cold Sweet Potato Fries from my 1st wrong order on my 2nd correct order. Lastly they love to think their cupcakes are all that. However they are Ehhh!

Gotta love the free cupcake that comes with the lunch! I was so full after the huge Reuben sandwich that I took the cupcake home with me. The rye bread was so delicious--it's obvious that their bakery department is outstanding. And of course, you have to walk by all their delicious pastries in order to get to your table. (Smart on their part!) My friend and I both ordered just the half Reuben sandwich, and then each of us got a small side, which you have to pay extra for. Neither of us could have finished an entire sandwich, plus the side. Very tasty. Waitress was friendly and efficient and our drink glasses never got empty. My friend has eaten here before and was craving their pancakes, but we just missed the breakfast time, so she was disappointed. At the end of the meal I asked her if she was still disappointed about missing the pancakes and she said "No way---this was great."

We came back for a second breakfast. Food is great and we really love the place, but the pace of service might be considered slow by many. This morning 6 mins for a server to take our drink orders. 14 mins for the drinks to arrive. Good thing we did our food order at the same time as drinks, as our food arrived 35 mins from sitting down. Our advice - come and enjoy a leisurely local breakfast and just chill out and enjoy the experience and plan for the necessary time it takes. The food you get is well worth the wait.

Ordered a cake last week for early Easter dinner today from the bakery across the street from the restaurant. When I went to pick it up yesterday, it was beautifully decorated but not how I wanted. The ladies were so nice to take it in the back and fix it for me. I sure appreciated the extra effort and super customer service. Goes without saying, it tasted awesome, all Arnie's baked goods taste awesome. Thanks so much ladies!!

Always good. Glad they rebuilt the Leonard. Store. It's a landmark. Miss the antiques. Guess taking their place!

Love the new layout post fire, same good food. Most recent visit I got the whitefish and onion rings. One piece was so thin it turned into a fish chip. I wished I had the cod after seeing my 5 year olds yummy fish & chips kids portion. The onion rings were good, but not quite as great as they used to be. My wife had the Chicken Caesar salad which has changed. Gone were the slivered candied almonds, her favorite part of the salad. 4 cupcakes were awesome! Love the carrot cupcake, so good! After a slow start we were treated to great service! 3 adult meals + 1 kid meal + tip came to $50. A little pricey, but what do you do when you have to pay more for food and employees as a business owner thanks to inflation? We will go again, best family restaurant on the west side!

Classic American diner food but at a higher quality. The free cupcake with my dinner was unexpectedly amazing.

Nice, relaxing, clean location. I've been here more now since the original building burned down a few years ago. The service was good and the girl was very prompt to our needs. It wasn't busy today which was nice since I was hoping for a more intimate feel, instead of craziness with people everywhere. Our food came out pretty quickly and our waitress made sure that our drinks never went empty. The ONLY complaint that I have about our visit today is when our food came out there were gnats that all of the sudden appeared and would not leave us alone until we were done. The dessert area is amazing and the selection of delicious pastries is always a delight... they even have a frozen yogurt selection with flavors that rotate out. A great place, indeed.

The bakery's got some great stuff but the mom or lady who seemed to be in charge weirded me out. It's okay not to stare at customers. Drop the old world pseudo friendliness. Great donuts though!

I found myself at Arnie's for a private event, so my review is based on that experience. I have not dined in the restaurant as a regular diner. I'll start with the reason that they lose a star...the private room that we had was located upstairs. There is no elevator and we had a number of elderly people in our party and they were unable to navigate the stairs. Thus the party ended up being split in two, with those who couldn't make it upstairs dining separately downstairs. Also, no bathroom upstairs. Finally as it was a warm, sunny summer day the air conditioning was not quite up to snuff upstairs. Now onto the good stuff. The reasons for four stars: Star # 1 The buffet that was set out was excellent. Large sandwich rolls with a choice of fillings....chicken salad (some of the best I've had), turkey, ham, assorted sliced cheeses, lettuce tomato, salad, home made potato chips (a stand out) and fruit (really fresh ripe and delicious). Star #2 The service was really friendly and accommodating. Star #3 Cleanliness. Nice clean restaurant and bathroom facilities. Star #4 The piece de resistance...the cupcakes. I think this place must be known for its cupcakes because they were great. I had the carrot cake one and was very happy. It not only had the frosting on top it was also filled. Others also enjoyed the other flavors that they had.

Quality restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Head and shoulders above Russ' and Mr Burger. Plus the pastries and desserts are fantastic.

Not a fan of having to add fries as an upgrade to my burger meal. Chips for dinner is just not acceptable. Frozen burger grilled tasted good, but you can do better.

Warning...don't visit the outdoor seating unless you want a great view of the front entrance to an "adult" bookstore across the street. Having said that the place (Arni's) is very clean and pretty open. Service was very prompt and attentive for our party of 17. Our server was prompt in taking orders, answering questions and getting food delivered accurately. I had the Cuban and it is a very large sandwich as seemed to be the case with most of those ordered. The Cuban had plenty of juicy meat and excellent cheese. Why they charge $1.69 additional for fries is beyond me...but my fries with the Bang Bang sauce were good..just overpriced for a standard fry. A couple of those ordering the french onion soup found it to be a bit spicy for their tastes. All meals came with a choice of several cupcake desert options...a nice touch.

Their sandwiches are HUGE and their double up deal is a nice option when you want a salad too.

LOVE their Scandinavian shuffle with turkey!!! Somewhat of an "old person" restaurant, but it's always been good. Also, I think each meal comes with a little free dessert, so that's a bonus!
(4)Chris J.
Had my heart set on breakfast for an after church meal. I wish it was offered all day since they are open only until 3 pm. But the food was still excellent. Love the Scandinavian shuffle sandwich.

new location....slow slow slow slow....both of us ordered pick two and received our soup/salad quickly but it has been over 15 minutes and no sandwiches. currently waiting on my ice tea refill...server mistakenly brought more water. Sigh. Would just like the rest of our meal so we can leave. Manager offered to find our MIA sandwiches and offered us extra cupcakes. After discovering the sandwich portion of our order hadn't been placed, he offered us 1/2 off the order. French dip was excellent. Bill came at full price so we had to request the waiter get it fixed. We can tell they were very busy today but really need to iron out these issues.

It was dinner time while I was passing through Grand Rapids. So after passing by a number of billboards advertising Arnie's, I decided that I would make a stop at Arnie's for nourishment. Arnie's seems to be a local institution around Grand Rapids and when I went to the Leonard Street location, I felt I was in a place with the decor of a Panera Bread, but with a much larger menu selection and a mother lode of cupcakes. While I was admiring the specials that are offered such as a Scandinavian Shuffle, Alaskan whitefish, paninis or Baja fish tacos, I was content with ordering a french dip sandwich. The restaurant was clean, service was prompt and the food was delish. I don't often go to Grand Rapids (in fact, this was my first time ever driving through the city), but when I do, I'll consider eating at Arnie's and shooting for that fifth Yelp star.

I still miss the old Arnie's, but in reality this is much improved over the old building. Food was pretty good but I do have to admit, I do not see the need for nuts to be in everything. We will be back.

Oh Arnie's, why won't you come to Metro Detroit? We really need you!!! I am a nostalgic fool, and I miss the days of Bill Knapp's, and when there were lots of family restaurants that weren't coneys or didn't suck. Arnie's is just what I've been missing. A good variety on the menu, quick, friendly service, and best of all FREE CUPCAKES! Most of their meals come with a free cupcake. This is the kind of cupcake you used to get at school bake sales. They are moist, sugary, and just plain GOOD. The same can be said for the food. It isn't super gourmet, or ethnic, or even too terribly original. But it is tasty, and pretty consistent. The entrepreneur in me is wondering where I would put my Arnie's franchise.....

Arnies is the BEST in the Grand Rapids area, especially the ARNIES on 54th street and 131. The food is great and the Bakery is excellent, they also have on Tueday's buy 1 burger GET THE OTHER FREE. You must stop in Arnies.
